Brunsfield Early Childhood Development Centre commenced operations on September 6, 2004. The aim of the school is to provide a strong developmental foundation for its students so that they can be active participants in their primary level education and beyond. The school's motto is " Always striving for Excellence." the school's early operations were impeded by Hurricane Ivan which gave the island a devastating blow on September 11, 2004. By January 2005 the school had ten students which facilitated the inauguration of the Kindergarten Section. The school's first employees were Ms Forbes and Ms Kerry Ann Ferguson. The first Kindergarten teacher was Ms Claudette Hussey who passed away in 2009. The school struggled with a low student population up until April 2005 when the Lord God directed Mrs. Carol Payne to assume the Vice Principal position. By September 2005 the student population grew to 35 under the guidance of Mrs Payne. The school added two classrooms in September 2005 which could accommodate a total of sixty students. By September 2006 the schools population grew to 55 and by September 2007 there were 90 students enrolled at Brunsfield. The Board of Directors recognized the hard work of Mrs Carol Payne and staff. Mrs Payne was promoted to Principal in 2007. The school added extra curricula activities such as swimming , dancing and karate. The name Brunsfield was beginning to take root in the Spanish Town community. By 2008 the school reached breakeven student population of 110 students and by September 2009 the school had a total of 135 students in Nursery, Pre-school, Kindergarten and After-Care. The all school spelling quiz was introduced in 2009 and was won by Gabrielle Walters who was also named Girl of the Year for 2009. The quiz competition was named the Claudette Hussey Memorial trophy in honour of the school's first Kindergarten Teacher. The school's board is chaired by Mr. Barrington Payne who is Chairman and founder. The Board has representatives from business and community and an overseas based Directors, Mr Delroy Richards/Mrs Kareem Richards. Today Brunsfield Early Childhood Development Centre is one of the most sought out early childhood institutions in the Spanish Town environs.
